Where to begin?

People!

First of all I'd like to say I've never in my entire life made a website, or even tried to comprehend what it's all about; but that has got to change starting from now!
The thing is that I bought a domain name (or how do you call your own URL in English; I'm not a native speaker). Now I'd like to put up my indexhibit site on the website. Problem is I haven't got a clue where to begin. I just downloaded the indexhibitv070e map, but what should I do with it now? Told you I have to start from scratch ...

Thanks heaps in advance!!!!

Roel.

Did you read the "How to install" page? That's a good place to start...better to try first and then ask questions.

Alright, thanks a lot! But here's where it already starts to go wrong, it just doesn't make sence to me. But I'll figure it out; you'll definitely see me back on the forum :s
Thanks for the reaction!
Roel.

Is your native language French? Ask questions in French...we have two good French-speaking helpers around here...

But in English...

- make sure your webhost meets the requirements
- use Cyberduck (Mac) or Filezilla (PC) for ftp'ing your files to server
- get the database connection info from your webhost
- then follow the instructions

Let us know how it goes. ;)

Ok, here comes another very basic question: on my Filezilla I can see in the right column all the files from my website. Have you got any clue if/where I should transfer the indexhibit-files to? Thanks again, for your patience too :)

And, to make sure I'm doing the right thing in the right order: ftp'ing all these files is something you do *before* you create your own website on indexhibit, right? Once you've put these files into your website's files you can actually start building?
Man, I'm very ignorant :s
Any help = most welcome!

Do you have the ftp info from your host? All hosts are different and have different places where you put the files...once again, you should ask your host where you put your files for the web.

Yeah, you need to upload all of this stuff...then deal with the database installation things...and then you can start building your site.

I have the ftp stuff from my site; I asked the guys from that site where I had to transfer the files to through ftp and so they told me. But to be honest, I haven't got a clue what to do next! I'm in need of somebody who can explain to me in real life. I'll get back to you when the situation looks dramatic again ;)
Thanks for the help!

If I was in Belgium right now I'd say call me on the phone...but I'm in Spain right now. ;)

I'm getting to the point where I want to call everybody who could have the slightest idea about what to do next. Sure, I could start building my site now I've uploaded the indxhibit files to my own site; but I cannot imagine that I just build my site on indexhibit and that it will get picked up automatically by my 'domain website'. The thing is: do I start building from my own site or can I start doing it from indexhibit now the files have been transferred? Difficult stuff!!! But thanks so much!

If you have uploaded the files the next thing to do is install it. You need the connection info from your webhost...the "How to install" instructions at the left cover this part.
