Images not appearing

lizzy106 / 2011-11-05 17:36:07

Hi
I was wondering if anyone would be able to help me figure out why the images I have inserted into the exhibits are not showing up and are appearing as blank boxes with a cross in the corner.

To insert them into the exhibit I uploaded them in "files manager" then used the down arrow next to the file name to insert the link into my post. Initally the pictures showed up on the sites but now they have stopped appearing.
This is the code I am using (without the spaces obviously): < img src='http://www.lizzyrose.co.uk/indexhibitv070e/files/series-1.jpg' width='600' height='451' / >
The images are still in files manager I can view them there.

My url is www.lizzyrose.co.uk

Is anyone able to shed any light on this?

Thanks in advance. Lizzy

1- I'm getting several errors for your images, so you may have a permissions problem: check that permissions for your files and files/gimgs folders are 777 (or 755 should work too)

2- besides permissions, of course loading up images with files manager should work, but the question is why would you need to do it that way? The focus of indexhibit is the ability to create exhibition galleries easily, which you do by using the upload button below the text edit area of each page (then you choose what exhibition format you'd like on the panel to the right)

3- you should change to advanced mode in Settings, and switch the theme from Eatock to Sample, to get more flexibility in styling your site

Hi Thanks for the advice. I'm still have problems unfortunately!

Re: 1. I have gone into Filezilla and changed the permissions to "777". The images are kept in "files" rather than "gimgs" could that be a problem?

Re: 2. When I use the upload button nothing really happens except that a "C:fakepath...etc" appears but then disapears if you refresh. The first time I used it the image apeared below and I could drag it about but this has never happened since. I have taken a screen grab to show you what it looks like: http://s7.postimage.org/q8p54cjxn/indexhibit_help.jpg

re: 3. Thanks I have changed the theme, nothing to my untrained eye looks any different though.

There are a few issues I can think of that might be causing the problem.
1. When I downloaded indexhibit there was no "files" or "gimgs" folder to change the permissions of so I added them myself.
2. I only have 5mb of space from my web host

Thanks again for the help :)

yes, when you upload via file manager, the files go roost at folder files, so that's not a prob

c:fakepath: that is a a problem, either your host is not using Linux or you are using an old safari, try using firefox, see if you still get the same problem

and if you didn't have the files and gimgs folders it may be that other things were also missing: to be sure the thing to do would be to repalce everything under the ndxz-studio folder with a fresh downloaded copy except the ndxz-studio/config/config.php

do you really mean 5 MB? not 5 GB but 5 MB? I didn't know there were hosting plans with only 5 MB, that's going back at least 10 years... what kind of host... sheesh... seriously, if it only is 5 MB, that won't do at all

and on top of all that: all your image paths point to a lizzyrose.co.uk/indexhibitv070e/files/ folder, while your images actually are all under lizzyrose.co.uk/files/
(you have probably moved your indexhibit installation between then and now and forgot to update to the new path)

ah! so many problems.

i had a little look at my free space and figured out that 5mb can't be right. i'll have a little go at fixing and get back to you.

thanks dude

Ok, so I have re-downloaded indexhibit from here: http://www.indexhibit.org/download/ and the "files" and "gimgs" folder STILL isnt there!
This is what is looks like, can you tell if I am missing anything? http://postimage.org/image/6z0d58v5n/

I did replace it all anyway except for the config folder like you said.

I have had to add the "files" and "gimgs" myself, in a different place than before because i think i put them in the wrong place last time. I have put them so they are in inexhibitv070e/files/gimgs. Here is a screen grab of what filezilla looks like now: http://s8.postimage.org/4w8bgjovp/filezilla_screen_grab_after_reinstallation.jpg
Does that look right?

So, was the problem with the images to do with the paths being wrong? I'm not sure how I did that. I thought I just used the arrow button in the file manager to insert the file paths... tut. I will upload them all again and see what happens! Thank you.

Last thing, now I am using Firefox in edit and it looks much better! I'm not sure its what should be happening though. The picture isnt appearing at the bottom of the screen. The file I was trying was only 148kb so I am not sure whats happening. http://postimage.org/image/hcs07014r/

Sorry for all the screengrabs. Thank you for your time.

Hurray! The images are working! :)

pernin / 2011-11-06 18:09:38

well, I'm happy for you it's working now :)

I don't know what you are doing: I just downloaded indexhibit from the same link as you, and all folders are there, files and gimgs too... :/

lizzy106 / 2011-11-06 18:49:10

Literally no idea why this is happening. Could it be windows?

Anyway alls well that ends well.

pernin / 2011-11-07 02:35:22

if you mean windows in your computer,no I don't think so. If you mean that your servere is windows, then yes, you have a problem as indexhibit shouldn't work on a windows server, only Linux. Where is your website hosted? is it a commercial host?

lizzy106 / 2011-11-07 04:21:24

I think the host is ok. Everything seems to be working now. Its 1and1.

It could be the unzipping software.

I am still slightly miffed about the Eatock vs. Sample thing. What is supposed to be the difference between the two? I don't dare change it now everything is working.

lizzy106 / 2011-11-07 04:28:02

Right just done some reading ingnore the bit about the themes.

pernin / 2011-11-08 00:18:49

Yes, definitely a problem with your unzipping software, or the way you use it. The question is, if it's failing to unzip files and gimgs, maybe it's also failing to unzip other files or folders under ndxz-studio, and that's what causing you problems with image upload

by the way, I guess you are on the starter package of 1and1, that's 5 GB server space ;) That'll do
